Is there a difference between Alimony and the Equitable Division of Property in Georgia??
The Answer is YES! In Georgia, the terms "Alimony" and "Equitable Division of Property" are in no way synonymous. In fact, alimony is a monetary allowance from one spouse's estate that is contributed to the other/former spouse when living separately. On the otherhand, allocating assets acquired during the marriage to the respected parties based on each of their interests in whatever assets they might have entails the equitable division of property in a divorce proceeding.
